GUIDE

Is EMtone worth it for cellulite?

Yes, for the right skin: moderate cellulite on the thighs and buttocks in someone whose weight is stable, which is who the studies treated and who responded best. In a 2018 study of 30 women treated four times, specialists grading photographs without knowing which was before or after found cellulite reduced in 93% at three months. In a 2023 study of 30 patients (28 completed) with grade 2 or 3 cellulite, the severity score fell from 9.1 to 4.9 at six months, 86% were satisfied and 82% said their skin felt firmer. EMtone improves the appearance of cellulite rather than removing it, and the honest test is your own skin at three months against your before photograph, which is how we judge every course at EMtone Clinic.

What you are paying for

A course of four sessions, about 20 minutes per area, once or twice a week over two to four weeks, with no downtime and no needle, and a result that builds for three months and holds for several months in our experience. Among the treatments at our address, EMtone is the one designed around cellulite: EMsculpt NEO builds muscle and reduces fat under it, Morpheus8 and Sofwave at our sister clinics are chosen mainly for loose skin, and creams and massage reach the surface only. The EMtone and EMsculpt page sets out the difference.

What the studies measured

  • 30 women, 2018: four weekly sessions on the thighs and buttocks; cellulite reduced in 93% at three months, the change graded good or better in 73%, the hips 2.3 cm and the thighs 2.1 cm smaller on average; the authors declared no commercial interest in BTL.
  • 30 patients, 2023: grade 2 or 3 cellulite, four sessions over two to four weeks; severity 9.1 to 4.9 at six months, 86% satisfied, 82% firmer skin, discomfort rated 2.8 out of 10; the authors are medical advisers to BTL.
  • 32 patients, 2023, EMtone combined with EMsculpt NEO in each session: the 15 treated on the thighs measured 3.0 cm smaller at three months.
  • Across the six published human studies of this technology, alone or with EMsculpt, 191 people were enrolled and no serious adverse event was reported.

BTL's own headline figures, a 59% greater increase in collagen and a 64% greater increase in elastin, come from a study on five pigs comparing the two energies delivered together with the same energies delivered one after the other, and we present them as that rather than as a patient result.

Who it is not for

Heavy cellulite with deep dimples, loose skin after large weight loss, and cellulite that comes mainly from weight gain respond less, and EMtone is not a fat-reduction or weight-loss treatment. If that is your skin, the clinician says so at the free consultation and plans what fits: EMsculpt NEO for the shape, Morpheus8 or Sofwave for laxity, or EMtone after weight has settled. It is not used in pregnancy, with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, with metal implants, over an active skin infection or after a recent deep peel; the clinician checks each.

How we check it worked

A before photograph at the consultation, an after photograph at three months, and your own view of the skin. Our patients review the clinic on review.clinic, where EMtone at our clinic holds 4.9 out of 5 from 68 reviews, with 100% saying the treatment was worth it (November 2026). The full EMtone guide covers the rest.
